The Plastic Surgery Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences — known across China as 'Badachu' after its location in Beijing's western hills — is the country's largest dedicated plastic and reconstructive surgery institution and ranks second nationally in the specialty. Founded in 1957, it is where Chinese plastic surgery was systematized, and its surgeons perform reconstructive and aesthetic procedures at volumes few centers in the world approach.

Established in 1957 as New China's first plastic surgery specialty institution, the hospital in Shijingshan District has grown to hundreds of beds devoted entirely to plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, with dozens of specialized departments dividing the field more finely than almost anywhere else — separate centers for ear reconstruction, cleft lip and palate, craniofacial surgery, burn scar reconstruction, breast surgery and aesthetic medicine.

Ear reconstruction for microtia is world-renowned — the hospital's techniques and case volumes in building ears from rib cartilage draw patients internationally. Craniofacial surgery corrects congenital skull and facial deformities; the cleft lip and palate program spans infancy through adult revision.
