Surgery in China: Records to Bring

by China Medical Services

For a surgery enquiry in China, organize existing records before asking what additional material is needed. The receiving clinician should decide which documents are relevant to the proposed assessment. A generic packing list cannot prescribe tests, establish surgical fitness or guarantee that the available information is sufficient. Tell the team when a report or original image cannot be obtained.

Organize the Records You Already Have

Create an index with the document name, issuing institution and date. Keep originals separate from translations and label both versions clearly. Examples to ask about include consultation letters, imaging reports and original image files, prior operative or discharge notes, and a current medication and allergy list. These are discussion prompts, not a requirement for every patient.

Questions to Confirm

  • Which existing reports are needed for the clinical question being considered?
  • If imaging is requested, does the receiving team need the original files as well as the written report?
  • Are previous procedures or implanted devices relevant, and what documentation should accompany them?
  • Which translation format is accepted, and how should unclear terminology be checked?
  • What secure transfer method is available, and who confirms that the files can be opened?
  • Which documents should remain accessible during travel and at the appointment?

Before the Next Commitment

Do not order new investigations merely because a website checklist names them. Ask a qualified clinician whether anything further is needed. Before returning home, discuss the records and follow-up information your home clinician will require. Keep the final documents with their original dates and authorship rather than merging different clinical opinions into an unsigned summary.

Keep Originals and Clarifications Together

If the receiving team requests imaging, ask whether it needs the original image files, the written report or both. Tell it what you have. Do not convert an unavailable image set into a few screenshots and represent them as equivalent without the reviewer’s agreement. The clinical team can explain what the available material permits it to assess.

Where a prior tissue diagnosis or procedure is relevant, ask the receiving clinician which accompanying material is needed. Ask the issuing institution how any requested material can be supplied. Do not order a new test or send a specimen merely because it appears on a general surgery checklist.

Keep your medication information clear, including the details your clinician asks for, and disclose known allergies or prior concerns. These records are for professional assessment, not instructions to change treatment yourself. After care, ask the treating team what should be shared with your home clinician and who can answer questions about the documents. Note any material still pending so it is not mistaken for a complete handover.

Coordination and Clinical Responsibilities

China Medical Services helps organize hospital enquiries, existing records, appointment communication and practical support. Clinical decisions belong to qualified treating professionals. Ask about the specific tasks you need through our patient coordination service; confirm availability, scope and fees in writing before proceeding.

For an enquiry, describe the question, the records already available and the support requested. Do not post medical files publicly. Ask how patient permission and secure document transfer will be handled before sending sensitive information. A coordination reply is not a clinical recommendation or a confirmation of hospital acceptance.

General planning information, not medical or legal advice. Individual clinical decisions belong to qualified treating professionals.
